That the newest form of media that will replace DVD and CD will be based on flash or memory sticks. Rigth now they are over the 2G of space and growing, they are faster to access, to format, to record, can't be scratced, you might even dropped it and won't break, easier to carry, etc....
There are no moving parts, so costs will even be cheaper. Units can easily be recicled.
The only drawback might be related to a power surcharge or electric fiels, but VHS had a similar problem too.
Now, knowing that companies want to get as much money as they can, they might switch to a cheaper form of plastic and that you evntually have to replace with the years.

Funny, Evil Chris and I were just talking about this the other day! And yes, that was our thought too that something akin to flash sticks/memory cards would be the next evolution of portable media. Imagine getting all your music and movies on little cards like we put in our digital cameras right now.
I'm actually surprised more car manufacturers haven't made some type of integrated platform in-dash for MP3 players/iPods. To my knowledge only 1 has done so to date?
It'll be interesting to see where it all goes!

it's a long way off... DVD's cost pennies in bulk, but flash memory is far more expensive...
